Chicago In the Fall

Summer in Chicago is grand,

With the sailboats on the lake and the sand.

Blue skies and sunny days,

Street fests and the accompanying alcohol haze.

But give me Chicago in the fall,

With changing leaves, a pennant race, and FOOTBALL!

I know I was supposed to write about what I want to do with my dream job (Cubs GM), but I got caught up looking forward to this weekend and was inspired to write that little poem. This weekend, and the ones like it every fall, are why this is my favorite season. This weekend the Cubs squeeze 4 games into 3 days down in St. Louis in a series that could bury the Cardinals for good or put them back in the race dragging the Cubs down with them. On Saturday my beloved Fighting Irish travel up to the “Big House” in Michigan to face a team that’s actually had a worse year so far as two Freshmen QBs face off for the all-time winningest college programs. And on Sunday the Chicago Bears kick off their home opener out for blood and looking to even their record against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. So much sports goodness, so little time. Thankfully it’s all timed perfectly. The first Cubs game tonight at 7pm. Then the ND game nestled in between the Cubs double header tomorrow. And Sunday the Cubs game will be finishing up during the 2nd Quarter of the Bears game. I must go to meditate and prepare myself for this adrenaline and drama packed weekend, I’ll get back to you Monday if I survive. (The Cubs should be in first and the Bears and Fightin’ Irish will have their first wins)
